The Swim School

Our Vision
Every child and adult deserves the chance to learn to swim.
We endeavour to meet the child's individual needs to ensure the best class we can teach. We have extremely high expectations of our team and they do not disappoint.

Continued development
At Sue's Swim School, we promote staff to share good practice activities. This ensures our experienced staff are up-skilled with new practices as well as allowing our helpers to gain experience and methods of teaching from working with more experienced staff.
Speciality training
Some of our staff have gained extra experience and awards in chosen areas such as lifesaving, working with SEN children, competitive swimming, working with adults.

Where we began...
Sue’s Swim School has a rich history that dates back to 1982, when it was founded by friends Roz and Sue. The first lessons were held at the Princess Alice Orphanage in Sutton Coldfield, marking the beginning of a journey that would span decades and impact thousands of swimmers.

After the original pool closed in 1985 due to structural issues, the swim school relocated to Perry Common Secondary School. A few years later, as the site was redeveloped, we found our new and current home at Cardinal Wiseman School in 1988. Not long after, we also expanded to include the pool at Fairfax School in Sutton Coldfield.

In 1999, Roz stepped away from the business, and the swim school continued to grow under Sue’s leadership, becoming the well-loved, community-centered swim school it is today.

In 2018, we faced a heart-breaking loss when Sue passed away unexpectedly. Determined to continue her legacy, Andy—a seasoned school teacher and swimming professional—and Matt, an expert in sports merchandise and business operations, took the reins.

Fast forward six years (including two challenging years during lockdown), and Sue’s Swim School is now the largest private, non-franchised swim school in the Midlands. We’re proud to provide high-quality swimming lessons to over 1,300 children and adults each week.

Andy leads our swimming operations, bringing over 25 years of teaching experience and more than a decade as a qualified Aquatic Tutor. Matt manages the business side, including finance, merchandise, and uniforms. Thanks to Matt’s foresight and planning, we navigated the lockdown without a single job lost to redundancy and ensured that every swimmer retained their credit or lessons.

At Sue’s Swim School, we’re more than just a swim school — we’re a family. And we’re proud to continue building on the legacy that Sue started over 40 years ago.
