Pathway 2

Building confidence as independence grows

Our Parent & Toddler classes are designed for parents and toddlers to swim together, offering a reassuring bridge between early baby sessions and more independent swimming.

At this stage, children begin to show more curiosity, confidence and movement in the water, and having a familiar adult close by helps them feel secure as they explore new skills.

Who are these lessons for?

This pathway is for children aged 24 to 36 months (around 2–3 years old).

Lessons focus on:

  • Supporting growing independence in the water

  • Developing trust, routine and familiarity

  • Encouraging movement and early skill development

  • Keeping swimming fun, calm and positive

Parents remain in the water throughout, providing comfort and encouragement while our teachers guide the session.

What badges do swimmers work towards?

Swimmers in Pathway 2 work towards:

  • Starfish 4, 5 and 6 — early skills and confidence awards

  • STAnley 1, marking an exciting step forward in their swimming journey

These awards recognise progress in confidence, movement and early water skills, always at a pace that suits each child.

When do swimmers move on?

Children can move on to the next stage once they are 36 months old (3 years).

We take time to ensure each child is ready, confident and happy before progressing. There’s no rush — moving on should always feel like a positive step forward.
