Pathway 3

A confident step towards independent swimming

Pathway 3 is designed for children aged 3 years and over who are ready to swim without a parent in the water. This is an exciting milestone, and we take great care to make the transition feel safe, positive and supported.

Each lesson is led by a qualified swimming instructor, ensuring children receive plenty of encouragement, reassurance and individual attention as they begin swimming more independently.

Who are these lessons for?

This pathway is suitable for:

  • Children aged 3 years and above

  • Swimmers who are ready to enter the water independently

  • Children beginning to develop listening skills, confidence and basic swimming movements

Lessons are calm, structured and nurturing, helping children feel secure while they learn new skills and routines.

What do we focus on at this stage?

In Pathway 3, we focus on:

  • Building confidence without a parent in the water

  • Developing early swimming technique

  • Encouraging good listening and awareness in lessons

  • Supporting independence at a pace that suits each child

Every child is supported as an individual, and reassurance is always a priority.

What badges do swimmers work towards?

Swimmers in Pathway 3 work towards:

  • STAnley 1 and STAnley 2

  • Octopus 1 and Octopus 2 (skills awards)

  • 5 metre distance award

These awards celebrate growing confidence, early technique and the ability to move independently through the water.
