Pathway 5
Growing independence with clear guidance
Pathway 5 is designed for children who are becoming confident, independent swimmers and are ready to focus more closely on technique, control and stamina.
At this stage, lessons are led by a qualified swimming instructor from poolside. This allows children to swim independently while still receiving clear instruction, demonstrations and encouragement throughout the lesson. Support remains constant, it’s just delivered in a way that promotes confidence and independence in the water.
Who are these lessons for?
This pathway is suitable for:
-
Children who have completed the Pathway 4 awards
-
Swimmers who are comfortable moving around the pool independently
-
Children ready to develop technique, distance and control
Lessons remain structured, calm and supportive, helping swimmers progress without pressure.
What do we focus on at this stage?
In Pathway 5, we focus on:
-
Improving swimming technique and body position
-
Developing stamina over longer distances
-
Building control and confidence without in-water support
-
Encouraging strong listening and awareness skills
Each child is guided carefully, with feedback and reassurance provided throughout.
What badges do swimmers work towards?
Swimmers in Pathway 5 work towards:
-
STAnley 6 and STAnley 7 (skills awards)
-
15 metre and 20 metre distance awards
-
