A confident move into lane swimming
This is the first step into structured lane swimming, designed for children who are ready to swim longer distances with control, consistency and confidence.
Lessons remain supportive and encouraging, helping swimmers feel comfortable in a lane-based environment while developing stamina and technique alongside others at a similar level.
Lane swimming is introduced carefully, with a strong focus on steady progression rather than speed or competition.

Children who have successfully completed the Pathway 6 awards

Confident, independent swimmers

Children ready to transition into lane swimming in a calm, structured way
Swimmers are grouped with others of a similar ability to ensure lessons feel manageable and positive.
What do we focus on at this stage?
In this first lane stage, we focus on:

Swimming continuously with good technique

Developing stamina and controlled breathing

Building confidence swimming in a lane format

Encouraging consistency and steady pacing
Support and guidance are always provided to help swimmers feel secure as they adjust to lane swimming.
What badges do swimmers work towards?
Swimmers in this group work towards:

50 metre distance award

Angelfish 1 (skills award)

75 metre distance award

100 metre distance award
These awards recognise strong technique, increasing endurance and confidence swimming longer distances continuously in lanes.
