Building endurance, technique and confidence
Lane Swimming – Second Stage builds on the strong foundations developed in the first lane stage. Lessons focus on endurance, technique and consistency, helping swimmers feel confident swimming over longer distances with control and good awareness.
Sessions are structured and supportive, with clear guidance throughout. Swimmers are encouraged to progress steadily, developing stamina and efficiency at a pace that feels achievable and positive.
Who are these lessons for?
This pathway is suitable for:

Children who have successfully completed the Pathway 7 awards

Confident lane swimmers

Swimmers who are comfortable swimming longer distances with good technique and control
Children are grouped appropriately to ensure lessons remain supportive and well paced.
What do we focus on at this stage?
In this stage of lane swimming, we focus on:

Improving technique and efficiency

Developing endurance over longer distances

Encouraging consistent pacing and controlled breathing

Building confidence swimming continuously in lanes
Support and feedback are provided throughout to help swimmers continue progressing safely and confidently.
What badges do swimmers work towards?
Swimmers in Lane Swimming – Second Stage work towards:

200 metre and 400 metre distance awards

Angelfish 2 and Angelfish 3 (skills awards)
These awards recognise strong swimming technique, increased endurance and the ability to swim efficiently over longer distances.
