Why did we hold off for so long?
Why did we hold off for so long?

At Sue’s Swim School, we have always cared deeply about keeping things personal.

As a family-run swim school established in 1982, that small business feel has always mattered to us. We have built our reputation on being approachable, supportive, and genuinely connected to the families who trust us with their children’s swimming lessons. We never wanted to lose that by making things feel too automated or impersonal.

For a long time, that is exactly why we held back from offering online booking.

We know that many parents value clear communication and a friendly, human approach, and so do we. Being able to support families properly has always been an important part of how we work. We did not want to make changes just for the sake of it, especially if there was a risk of losing the warmth and care that people expect from Sue’s Swim School.

At the same time, family life has changed.

Parents are busier than ever, expectations around flexibility are higher, and the day-to-day admin involved in running swimming classes continues to grow. If we want to keep standards high for the families we already support, and continue welcoming new swimmers in the right way, we have to be willing to adapt.

That is why we made the move to online booking.

Using Swimphony software has helped us make that transition smoothly. It has allowed us to open up online booking in a way that is clear, simple, and easy for families to use, while still allowing us to manage everything properly behind the scenes.

The response has been really positive.

Online booking has made it easier for families to secure a place when the time feels right for them. It has reduced barriers at the start of the journey and helped us respond more efficiently at a time when pressures on swim schools are increasing. In just over a week, we saw around a month’s worth of bookings come through.

Most importantly, this change has not taken away the personal side of what we do.

If anything, it helps protect it.

The personal touch should be felt in the swimming lessons themselves, in the care shown by our qualified swim teachers, in the support we give families, and in the trust we build over time. It should not depend on making parents go through unnecessary steps just to get started.

For us, introducing online booking was never about becoming less personal. It was about making children’s swimming lessons easier to access while still holding onto the values that matter most to us.

Sometimes, keeping the feel of a family-run swim school means being willing to change how you operate, so you can keep delivering the things that matter most: confidence, water safety, clear swimming progression, and a positive experience for every family that joins us.

We are proud to have taken that step, and even prouder that we have been able to do it in a way that still feels like Sue’s Swim School.
